LambdaHow
will need to protect its intellectual property in many ways: registering domain
names, copyrighting, trademarking, creating Ownership of Inventions agreements
with employees, and carefully managing the progression of company ownership. These
filings, agreements, and considerations are necessary to ensure that the
company maintains ownership of its intellectual property (IP).
“LambdaHow”,
the name, will need to be protected in various ways. First the domain names lambdahow.com
and lambda.how will need to be bought. After this, simply paying the annual fees
to a domain registry to keep the domains will be enough. Second, registering
the name of the business with a trademark will prevent anyone else from
conducting business with the same name or using the name commercially without
LambdaHow’s permission.
The
computer science theory curriculum and website developed and used by the
company will be protected using copyrights and Ownership of Inventions
agreements with all employees. During the initial stages, just the founder will
be developing the curriculum and website and will therefore have sole
ownership. Each piece of curriculum and website developed by LambdaHow is by
default protected by copyright in the US and this will be indicated accordingly
on the website. However, additionally, the copyright will need to be registered
at copyright.gov to receive full federal protection for the content. As new
employees are brought on to assist in development, in addition to the same
copyright practices, the company will require each employee to sign an
agreement stating that everything they develop for the company and in relation with
the company is the sole property of the company. This will take the form of Ownership
of Inventions agreements.
As
LambdaHow progresses, the development of company ownership will need to be
carefully considered to maintain possession of IP.
