Shadrach White, the President and CEO of
cloudPWR, gave a talk to TINST 475. cloudPWR found a niche in the
software development and cloud services market by doing consistently
quality work for government organizations. As marijuana was legalized
to varying degrees in different states, government organizations
scrambled to comply with the documentation and regulation
requirements. cloudPWR took this opportunity to present to
documenters and regulators holistic cloud solutions whose security,
reliability, and accessibility outperformed on-premise server
solutions and paper-based, file cabinet solutions. Though it was a
slow start, government departments began to see how cloud services
have the potential to streamline operations.
One
of cloudPWR’s first government customers needed a way for various
people to collaboratively compare a large number of documents.
However, this wasn’t feasible in the few week timeline that was
required. CloudPWR demonstrated a solution that integrated many
Software as a Service platforms into an easy to use webpage for
people to provide input on the documents. This solution saved the
department large amounts of time and money, establishing a strong
reputation for cloudPWR going forward. Because cloudPWR found such
opportunites to provide holistic cloud solutions for institutions
whose systems typically fall many years behind modern technological
developments, the immediate competition has been sparse. Many
companies avoid bringing, or outright refuse to bring, novel
technology to slow-moving government operations; this is compounded
further by tech companies wanting to avoid association with
industries seen as controversial such as the cannabis industry.
My
favorite thing about Shadrach’s talk was his emphasis on clear,
open communication with clients. At one point he said he always
begins relationships with potential customers by asking, “What’s
your biggest challenge?”
